Joop Cock is a ceramist for more than 40 years. Art teacher on the Academy of Art in Rotterdam. Has is own studio and gallery in the Netherlands. His way of work is divers. Wheel-thrown, lathed and hand-altered ceramics. Speciality is crystal glaze on porcelain. A substance such as porcelain, which challenges him with its lack of plasticity (an inability to hold its shape) and its high susceptibility to cracking or breaking before being fired. (it is more fragile than a egg)

The crystal glazes is difficult to produce and the rewards can be great. They spontaneously form and grow in the kiln while the pieces are cooking. The largest crystals take up to 12 hours to grow. The shape and size of the crystal is somewhat controllable, but the placement and number of the crystals are not, so each piece is one of a kind. Worked several years in Jingdezhen – China and it inspired him a lot, especially the Chinese blue hand painting. Selected work has been exhibited throughout Europe and the USA.
